You’ve found it!
I am thrilled
to welcome you to my website where you can find out all about my
books for teens and young adults. I do
hope you will email
me, not just to tell me what you think about the books I have
already written, but to let me know just what YOU want to read about
– all those issues and dilemmas that make you feel as if you’re
the only person in the universe with that kind of problem. Every
couple of months I will be writing a newsletter
to tell you about forthcoming publications, and to keep you up to
date with my latest projects. If you have read some of my books
and are looking for new titles, check out the bibliography
page – and if you zap onto the links
page, you’ll find a whole heap of other websites full of fascinating
information about other authors who write similar books.
I am asked lots
of questions by young people - here are the answers some of the
most frequent!
Where do you live?
In Northamptonshire
How
old are you?
62
Have
you any children?
Yes, three daughters
who are all grown up. I have five grandchildren as well, which is
just fantastic
Have
you always been an author?
No – it
happened by accident. I wrote short stories for women’s magazines,
was a feature writer for a regional daily newspaper and then, when
my youngest daughter started a new school, I wrote a humorous book
about the pitfalls and pleasures of dealing with stroppy teachers,
hideous school uniform and school dinners that resembled quick-drying
concrete. Piccadilly Press agreed to publish it – and then
they asked me to write another book and another and another and….
What
are your favourite hobbies?
Travelling,
church activities, reading, going to the theatre, researching my
family tree, gardening, walking
What
were your favourite books when you were a child?
Little Women,
What Katy Did, Anne of Green Gables, anything about horses, Ballet
Shoes and then, when I was a teenager, everything by Charlotte Bronte,
Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and Elizabeth Goudge.
If you
weren’t an author, what would you be doing now?
I am a licensed
lay minister in the Church of England – so I guess that would
be my main activity. When I was younger I wanted to be a foreign
correspondent for the BBC, or a speech therapist working with children.
Where
do you get your ideas from?
Young people
I speak to in schools; snippets from newspapers (that’s where
the idea for Last Seen Wearing Trainers
came from - click here for info);
conversations overheard on trains (I’m a committed eavesdropper!)
and thoughts that spring into my head, usually when I’m cutting
my toenails or digging the garden.
NB I am once
again accepting invitations to visit schools within a reasonable
travelling distance of Northampton [or those prepared to put me
up in overnight hotel accommodation].
